BJP-Sikkim thanks Modi Govt for prioritizing NE in Cabinet expansion

Bharatiya Janata Party’s Sikkim unit convened a virtual meeting on Saturday chaired by the state president, DB Chauhan, and attended by BJP-Sikkim vice-presidents, general secretary and members of the state executive committee along with district and Mandal committee members.

A BJP press release issued by the party spokesperson, Dr Raju Giri, informs that the meeting discussed the importance given to the north-eastern region in the recent Union Cabinet expansion and further thanked the Centre and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the same.

In his address, Mr Chauhan expressed that the BJP government at the Centre has been committed to development and upliftment of the NER since inception.

He added that former PM Atal Bihari Bajpayee had adopted a new Look East policy setting up the DoNER Ministry.

He added that after forming the government at the Centre in 2014, the Narendra Modi government has also been working for the North East on priority and has changed the perception of the people in how the region is seen.

He stressed that the Narendra Modi government has further strengthened participation of the North East in the recent Union Cabinet expansion.

The release mentions that while presenting the thanksgiving resolution at the meeting, an executive member of the state committee, Bhupendra Giri, pointed out that the Cabinet now includes two MPs from the northeast and has three Ministers for State from the region.

He further said that such historic decisions of the Centre could play an important role in the development and empowerment of north-eastern region.

The thanksgiving resolution was seconded by BJP-Sikkim general secretary, Bharat Dulal.
