Block level Health Mela held in Gangtok
GANGTOK, 22 Apr:
The block-level Health Mela for Gangtok Block held here at Deorali community hall attracted a good number of visitors on Friday. The health mela is being organized by the Department of Health & Family Welfare under Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav under the guidance of Ministry of Health and Family Welfare to provide free health services to the people and to create mass awareness on health programmes and schemes of the government.
Health Mela for Gangtok block was inaugurated by Health Minister, Dr MK Sharma this morning, who was also accompanied by Mayor, Nell Bahadur Chettri and Councilors of Gangtok Municipal Corporation along with Commissioner-cum-Secretary, D Anandan, Director-cum-Secretary, Dr Pempa D Bhutia and officials of Health Department.
During the Health Mela, doctors and technical teams provided the free service of screening and check-up of the people from different wards of Gangtok. The venue also shared space for stalls for Eye, ENT and Dental consultation by specialists and the service of teleconsultation with relevant health specialists.
The event also had free health check-up by Ayush doctors and distribution of medicines. Likewise, health mela was also participated by different government departments, who exhibited stalls on healthy and nutritious foods and healthy lifestyle and practices.
On the occasion, Health Minister expressed that this initiative of health mela was a holistic approach of the government to provide free health services and to encourage people to live a healthy life through healthy food and lifestyle.
He mentioned that the Health Mela is the vision of the Prime Minister to take the health sector of the country forward. He urged the people to take full advantage of health services and facilities of the government.
Dr Sharma asserted that people need to be alert and conscious to avoid non-communicable diseases by following a healthy lifestyle and food habits. He encouraged students to be torchbearers in spreading the message to the people to adopt healthy habits and live a healthy lifestyle.
State IEC Officer, Sonam Gyaltsen Bhutia highlighted the activities of the creation of Unique Health ID under Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission and facilitated provision of Ayushman Bharat Card under Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana. He also spoke about a series of activities in the event to increase health awareness among the people to prevent various communicable and non-communicable diseases.
