Cancel trade licenses based on voter card: Sikkim Yuwa Sangathan

Sikkim Yuwa Sangathan president, Toya Rizal, has demanded that all trade licenses issued on the basis of voter card be cancelled immediately in the State. He threatened that the organization would take stringent steps if the concerned authorities do not take immediate and appropriate action against such trade license holders.

Speaking to media persons here today, he stated that there are many such trade license holders in the State who got trade licenses in the past just on the basis of voter cards. He alleged that UDHD and GMC had issued trade licenses in the past on the basis of voter cards.

He stated that the department made a mistake and it should immediately correct it.

Mr Rizal expressed that such practices have been creating problems for unemployed youth of Sikkim who have COI and Sikkim Subject. He threatened to take extreme steps if the concerned authorities do not take immediate action to cancel such trade licenses.

He demanded that local unemployed youths should get proper opportunities to run their business in Lal Bazaar and other markets.

Many genuine trade license holders with COI do not have proper space at Lal Bazaar and run their business sitting on the floor, he alleged.

On the occasion, he also reiterated his demand to engage only local pandits in all temples in the State. He urged the Ecclesiastical Department to take the matter seriously to ensure only local pandits in temples of Sikkim by issuing them identity cards. He stated that such a step would stop commercialization of religion in the State.
