Chief Minister’s One Mile Run, ‘Run for Fun’


Gangtok, 09 Jan:

People from different walks of life from in and around Gangtok have participated in the Chief Minister’s One Mile Run, ‘Run for Fun’, held on Saturday morning. Players and members of various sports associations and clubs and sports enthusiasts have come together in this initiative taken by sports wing of the ruling Sikkim Krantikari Morcha party.

The run started from Titanic Park following the route till Hospital Dara, Zero Point, turned to Secretariat Road, TNA School Road and finally ended at Ridge Park Road. Interestingly, runners especially young children participating in the run have also collected garbage falls on their route and later disposed of them in the proper garbage bins. At the end of the run, former coach, Thupden Rapgyal has also led the participants in a short aerobic session.

Speaking to SummitTIMES, Thupden Rapgyal mentioned that the main vision of the CM behind this initiative is to bring the people to run at least one mile in a week and around four times in a month and ultimately create mass awareness among the general people regarding physical fitness by participating in such events. He stated that it has been planned to organize run at different areas in the capital now onwards. ‘We are also trying to inculcate a practice present in joggers’ clubs in the abroad to collect garbage during jogging here among runners in the State. So, in this initiative, we have been encouraging participants to collect garbage falls on their route to sensitize people to dispose of their garbage in the right place,” he said.

Likewise, SKM sports wing president, Rinzing Wangyal Chopel mentioned that the Chief Minister One Mile Run would be conducted every Saturday to encourage the people from in and around Gangtok to stay fit and healthy.
