CM chairs introductory session with GMC councillors

Gangtok, 04 May [IPR]: A short introductory programme was held with the newly elected Mayor, Deputy Mayor and the Councillors adhering to the strict Covid protocols at Samman Bhawan, in the capital, today. At the outset, Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang paid his respects on the untimely demise of Late Raju Tamang who was recently elected as the Councillor from Arithang-II ward and expressed his solace to the family and friends of the departed soul. The Chief Minister congratulated the Mayor, Deputy Mayor and the Councillors on being handed the charge to lead and guide the public and assist in the upliftment of society. He also acknowledged the Councillors for their collective support and belief in the selection process of the Mayor and Deputy Mayor. The non-partisan based election system has laid the foundation for aspiring future leaders to independently contest based on their ability and will to serve the

people. Highlighting the ideologies of women empowerment and upliftment of women in the state, the Chief Minister reiterated that more than 50% of the seats were reserved for women candidates with the liberty to contest on the remaining. He especially appealed to them to be sensible and compassionate towards the needy and always be available to help them.
