CM hails PM’s decision to provide free vaccines for 18 above

Chief Minister, Prem Singh Tamang has welcomed the decision of the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi to extend the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana till November 2021 and provide free vaccination to those who are 18 years and above from 21 June, a press release from the CMO informs.

In his letter to the PM, the Chief Minister hailed it as a step in the right direction to overcome the COVID-19 pandemic and thanked him for the support extended to Sikkim during these tough times. He stated that the procurement of vaccines by the central government and its equitable distribution to the citizens is an encouraging step.

Further, he added that the decision to vaccinate everyone above the age of 18 years in a densely populated country like India is nothing short of historic and strengthens the belief of the people towards the government.

The Chief Minister stated that it was encouraging to know that the vaccines for those below 18 years of age have entered the trial phase. He added that the quick development and deployment of the vaccine will help minimize the threat in case of future waves of the pandemic.

The decision to extend the provision of free ration under Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana to 80 crore beneficiaries was lauded by the Chief Minister and expressed his delight on the humanitarian gesture of the Prime Minister which will assist the people to overcome this tough period.

Towards the end, he mentioned that the people of Sikkim are very grateful for the timely step taken by the central government and expressed his belief that collectively the country can defeat the pandemic under the guidance of the Prime Minister.
