Summit Report

Gangtok, 24 May:

Chief Minister PS Tamang today handed over appointment orders to 76 individuals who have been volunteering and assisting at health facilities here during the pandemic.

As per a Facebook post by the CM, among the recipients of the temporary appointment are dentists, staff nurses, ward attendants, OT technicians, radiographers, lab technicians, ambulance drivers and Safai Karmachari, whose services, he underlines, are "currently vital."

In his address, the CM applauded them for "tirelessly volunteering and serving the state since last year."

"Their dedication and hard work have assisted us in the time of pandemic and I urged them to continue with the same spirit and work as an integral part of the government mechanism," he shares.

He added that Sikkim's doctors, nurses and health workers are more than capable of treating patients and urged all to have faith in the State's facilities and cited several examples highlighting the success of the health mechanism and infrastructure here.

He also appealed to everyone to be considerate towards frontline workers, especially the police force, and maintain SOPs and not leave their homes until necessary.

He expressed confidence that "collectively we can break the chain and for that, we need to be mindful of the lockdown protocols and wear masks at all time which is the most effective way to deal with the virus."
