CM joins Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav Dandi March in Gujarat

Gangtok, 04 Apr: Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang participated in the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav Dandi March on 03 April, along with his Cabinet colleagues, MLAs, officials and the students in Gujarat, a press communique from the Chief Minister's Office informs. The 12 Mile journey on foot began from Damman where he addressed the local gentry. He expressed gratitude for the warm welcome accorded to the Sikkim contingent and asserted on building a strong relationship between the two states.

He paid homage to the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi who had opposed the salt tax levied during the time and led the original Dandi March which is considered one of the historic moments of the pre-independence era. Along the march, the Chief Minister was presented with mementos and also had a brief interaction with the people. The march concluded at Navsari, where a cultural programme was organised in the presence of Minister of Tribal Development, Tourism, Forest, Women & Child Welfare, Ganpathsinh Vasava. The programme included performances from Gujarat and Sikkim. The Chief Minister, in his brief address at the programme, stated that he, including the representatives from Sikkim, were fortunate to be part of this momentous occasion. He added that Sikkim, in-spite of being a small state, has walked hand in hand with the nation and contributed to the process of nation building.

He added that Sikkim will continue to work in tandem with the nation and promote the Prime Minister’s call for ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ and under his able guidance, he believes the country will reach newer heights. He extended an invitation to the people of Gujarat to visit Sikkim and experience the vibrant culture and tradition the state has to offer. Further, he stressed on building a strong relationship between the two states for mutual benefit.
