Covid cases cross 23K mark in Sikkim, one more death takes toll to 319

Sikkim’s tally of confirmed cases of COVID-19 crossed the 23,000-mark today to reach 23,080 with 151 new cases of novel coronavirus being detected in the last 24 hours.

Of the 151 new cases, 92 were registered in East District, 44 in West District, 14 in South District and 06 in North District.

In the meantime, 152 more persons were discharged from home and facility isolation on Thursday after recovering fully from Covid to further improve the count of recovered cases of COVID-19 in Sikkim to 20,181.

On the other hand, the State recorded one more COVID death when a patient passed away in home isolation in South District. Sikkim’s COVID death toll now stands at 319.

As per the Daily Report of COVID-19 released by the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme of the Health Department, the 151 new cases were detected from the testing of 855 samples on Thursday. The State’s daily test positivity rate was accordingly registered at 17.6%.

As per the report, 79 cases were detected in RT-PCR testing of 467 samples and 72 more persons were found positive in rapid antigen testing of 385 samples.

From among the 151 new cases, only nine were admitted to hospital and the rest sent to home and facility isolation. There are currently 2,320 active cases of coronavirus in the State, of whom five were admitted in ICU facility of STNM hospital and seven in the ICU at Central Referral Hospital. In all, there are 96 Covid patients with symptoms severe enough to require hospitalization.
