COVID claims 36 year old woman.
GANGTOK, 28 Dec: After some spike in new cases of novel coronavirus in the last few days, Sikkim has witnessed no new case of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours ending Monday morning. There are now 531 active cases of novel coronavirus in the State, of whom four are currently in the ICU facility of COVID dedicated STNM hospital. With no new case, Sikkim’s tally of the confirmed cases of COVID-19 is still stands at 5845, in which 5094 have already been recovered and discharged from the home and facility isolations.
It has to be mentioned here that all 22 samples tested on Sunday were returned negative for COVID-19, in which four were tested by TrueNat and 18 were tested by the rapid antigen testing and no testing were conducted by RT-PCR as VRD Lab remains closed on Sunday.
In the meanwhile, one 36-years-old lady from Pachey, Pakyong in East District was passed away here at COVID dedicated STNM hospital on Sunday. This is the 126th COVID related death in Sikkim.
In the daily health bulletin on Monday, Health Department State IEC Officer, Sonam Gyaltsen Bhutia informed that the patient was admitted in STNM hospital after being tested positive for COVID-19 in the rapid antigen testing. He informed that she passed away at around 1:30 PM yesterday due to Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome and COVID pneumonitis. This is the COVID death with comorbidities as the patient was diabetic.
