Covid claims one more in Sikkim

Covid claimed one more life in Sikkim today with the death of a 70-year-old male from East Sikkim reported from STNM Hospital. This is the 440th Covid death recorded in Sikkim since the virus claimed its first life here on 26 July, 2020. For the current year, this is the 31st fatality in a Covid-positive patient and the third consecutive day that Sikkim has lost a life to Covid.

As per the Daily Report of Covid-19 in Sikkim released by the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme of Health Department on Tuesday morning, 20 new cases were reported here in the last 24 hours taking Sikkim’s tally of confirmed cases since testing began on 28 Feb, 2020, to 38,977.

Of the 20 new cases, nine were registered in East District, seven in West, three in South and one in North District.

These 20 cases were picked up from the screening of 465 samples to give a daily test positivity rate of 4.3%.

While 11 cases were detected in rapid antigen testing of 319 samples, eight cases were picked up in RT-PCR testing of 141 samples and one in TruNat testing of five samples.

Also over the past 24 hours, 56 Covid patients made full recoveries and were released from home isolation on Monday to further improve the figure of recovered cases to 37,482. Sikkim's current recovery rate stands at 98%.

There are 312 active cases of Covid-19 in the State at present, of whom 11 are down with severe symptoms, eight have moderate symptoms and 293 are either asymptomatic or have only mild symptoms.

At present, there are 39 Covid patients admitted in hospitals here, 11 of whom are in ICU. of those in hospital, seven are under 18 years of age, three of whom are in ICU.

On the vaccination front, 41 adults received their Covishield shots yesterday, of whom 7 got their first jab while 34 completed their vaccination schedule with the second dose. Similarly, 431 children aged 15 to 18 completed their vaccination schedule with the second dose of Covaxin and 53 received their first dose.
