Covid claims one more, infects 74 others even as Sikkim’s active count drops to 859

Sikkim lost one life to Covid in the last 24 hours taking the state’s Covid death toll to 376 on Tuesday. The fatality was reported from STNM Hospital. This is the third COVID death of the week in Sikkim thus far. It may be recalled that two COVID deaths were recorded here yesterday.

As per the Daily Report of COVID-19 in Sikkim released by Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme of the Health Department, the State also recorded 74 new infections from the testing of 656 samples yesterday giving Sikkim a daily test positivity rate of 11.2%.

While 32 of the new cases were detected in RT-PCR testing of 225 samples, 41 more tested positive in rapid antigen testing of 424 samples and one case was picked up in CBNAAT of seven samples.

Of the 74 new cases, 39 were registered in East District, 20 in West District, 11 in South District and 04 in North District. Sikkim’s tally of the confirmed cases of COVID-19 has now reached 30,330.

Meanwhile, Sikkim’s count of active Covid cases has come down to 859 with 127 more formerly Covid-positive people making full recoveries and getting discharged from home and facility isolation in the last 24 hours. Sikkim’s figure of recovered Covid cases has further improved to 28,806.

Over the same 24 hours, six more COVID patients were admitted to hospitals in Sikkim and there are currently 10 COVID patients admitted in ICU facilities at STNM Hospital and Central Referral Hospital, Tadong.

On the other hand, 6,628 people received their Covishield jabs on Monday, of whom 434 received their first shots while 6,184 others completed their vaccine schedule with the second dose of the vaccine.
