Covid claims one more Sikkim

Covid claimed one more life in Sikkim with a patient in home isolation in West district succumbing to the virus in the past 24 hours. With this, Sikkim’s Covid toll has reached 392 from the 31,783 Covid-positive cases detected in the State since testing began on 28 Feb, 2020, giving Sikkim a case fatality rate of 1.23% thus far.

In the meantime, 27 new cases were reported in the past 24 hours from the testing of 537 samples on Monday giving Sikkim a daily test positivity rate of 5.02%.

Of the 27 new cases, 19 were reported in East District, 07 in West District and 01 in North District.

As per the Daily Report of COVID-19 in Sikkim released by the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme of the Health Department, while 13 of the cases were detected in RT-PCR testing of 276 samples, 13 more returned positive in rapid antigen testing of 259 samples and one case was picked up in TruNat testing of two samples.

On the other hand, the number of recovered cases of COVID-19 in Sikkim now stands at 30,892. The current recovery rate of COVID-19 in Sikkim is 98.2%.

There 181 active cases of COVID-19 in the State at present.

Eight new COVID patients were hospitalized in the State in the past 24 hours and there are three Covid patients currently admitted in ICU facilities at STNM Hospital and Central Referral Hospital.

Vaccination numbers have dropped of late with 629 doses being administered in the State on Monday. Of these, 604 people completed their vaccination schedule with the second dose and 25 received their first dose of the vaccine. That said, Sikkim is already rather well protected against the virus with the entire eligible population having already received at least one dose of Covishield and more than 80% of the adults already fully vaccinated.
