Covid claims one more, Sikkim’s toll reaches 378
Gangtok, 14 Sept:
With the virus claiming a life in the past 24 hours, Sikkim’s Covid death toll climbed to 378 today after having held at 377 for three consecutive days. This was the first COVID-death recorded in the State this week. The new fatality was reported from Namchi District Hospital in South District, the Daily Report of COVID-19 in Sikkim released by the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme of the Health Department this morning informs.
Meanwhile, Sikkim count of active Covid cases has come down to 777 with the discharge of 77 more people from home and facility isolation on Monday after making full recoveries. With this, the state’s figure of recovered cases has further improved to 29,242.
Infections meanwhile remained low over the same period with 46 people testing positive for COVID-19 from the screening of 695 samples yesterday giving the state a daily test positivity rate to 6.6%.
While 28 of these new cases picked up in rapid antigen testing of 400 samples and 18 were detected in RT-PCR testing of 293 samples.
Of the 46 new cases, 22 were registered in East District, 11 in West District, 12 in South District and 01 in North District. Sikkim’s tally of the confirmed cases of COVID-19 has reached 30,696.
In the past 24 hours, only ten more COVID patients were hospitalized in the State, taking the number of Covid patients in hospital to 60 [out of the 777 active cases]. Of the patients in hospital, eight are admitted in ICU facilities at STNM Hospital and CRH.
Of the 60 Covid patients in hospital, only four are under 18 years of age none of whom are in ICU.
On the vaccination front, 2,567 more received their Covishield shots on Monday, of whom 152 received the first dose and 2,415 completed their vaccine schedules with the second dose.
