Summit Report

Gangtok, 06 Mar:

Covid infections continued to drop in Sikkim, remaining in single-digits today as well with three new cases recorded in the last 24 hours at a daily test positivity rate of 1.4% from the screening of 221 samples.

With these three cases, Sikkim's count of Covid cases detected here since testing began on 28 Feb, 2020, has inched up to 39,090. Today daily TPR of 1.4% is substantially lower than that cumulative average [since testing began] of 12%. The average test positivity rate for the past seven days is 1.8%.

Complimenting the low number of new infections is news that no Covid deaths were reported here in the past 24 hours either and the Covid toll continues to hold at 443. The last Covid death in Sikkim was reported on 27 Feb, last month.

As per the Daily Report of Covid-19 in Sikkim released by the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme of Health Department, while two of the new cases were picked up in RT-PCR screening of 111 samples, the third was detected in rapid antigen testing of 107 samples.

Two cases were registered in East District from the screening of 152 samples, one in West District where 30 samples were screened while all the 38 samples tested in West Sikkim and the one in North returned negative for Covid.

Over the same 24 hours, two more Covid patients made full recoveries and were discharged from home isolation to take the number of people who have already beaten Covid in Sikkim to 37,864. Sikkim has a current recovery rate of 98.7%.

There are 38 active cases of Covid in the State at present, none of whom has severe symptoms, only two have moderate symptoms and the rest, 36, are either asymptomatic or have only mild symptoms.

Seven of the Covid-positive people here are currently in hospital, none of whom is in ICU.
