Covid patient passes away in home isolation, toll reaches 451 in Sikkim

Covid claimed one more life in Sikkim today with the death of a Covid-positive 23-year-old female reported from home isolation in West Sikkim. With this, Sikkim's Covid death toll reached 451 on Wednesday.

This was the second consecutive day that Sikkim recorded a Covid death. Yesterday, a 58-year-old Covid-positive lady had passed away from STNM Hospital.

The past 24 hours were also the second consecutive day that hospitals here had no Covid patients admitted in them. As per the Daily Report of Covid-19 in Sikkim issued by the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme of Health Department this morning, all the 18 people who are Covid-positive in Sikkim at present are either asymptomatic of have only mild symptoms and are hence in home isolation and not admitted in hospital.

In the meantime, the daily test positivity rate came in at 1.2% on Wednesday with three cases detected from the screening of 255 samples in the past 24 hours.

Out these three cases, two were picked up in RT-PCR testing of 108 samples and one from rapid antigen testing of 146 samples. All the three cases were registered in East District. Since testing for Covid began on 28 Feb, 2020, Sikkim has recorded 39,131 cases at a cumulative test positivity rate of 11.8%.

On the other hand, three Covid patients made full recoveries and were discharged from home isolation in the past 24 hours to improve the count of recovered cases to 37,916. Sikkim's current recovery rate is 98.8%.

Also yesterday, Sikkim administered 118 doses of corBEvax vaccine on children aged 12 to 14 years and 106 people received the precautionary third dose of Covishield on Tuesday.

A total of 65 adults [11 first dose and 54 second dose] received Covishield jabs yesterday and 424 children in the 15 to 18 age-group [64 first dose and 360 second dose] were vaccinated with Covaxin yesterday in the State.
