Covid-positive patient passes away, toll reaches 382 in Sikkim

Gangtok, 18 Aug: Sikkim’s Covid-19 related death toll reached 482 on Thursday. Sikkim, it may be recalled, had recorded its first Covid death on 26 July, 2020, a little over two years back. The 484nd Covid death was recorded today when an 86-year-old Covid-positive male from Gangtok breathed his last at STNM hospital. The last Covid death, that of an 82-year-old male from Padamchen in Pakyong district, was recorded on Tuesday earlier this week. As per the Daily Report of Covid-19 in Sikkim issued by the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme of Health Department on Thursday morning, the State today recorded a daily test positivity rate of 10.13% with 66 of the 651 samples screened in the past 24 hours returning positive. While 47 of the new cases were detected in rapid antigen testing of 501 samples, 18 were picked up in RT-PCR of 149 samples and one in TruNat. Of the 66 new cases, 24 were registered in Gangtok district, 02 in Pakyong, 18 in Gyalshing, 09 in Soreng, 11 in Namchi

and 02 in Mangan district. The tally of the confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Sikkim since testing began on 28 Feb, 2020 has now reached 43,250. In the meantime, 65 more Covid patients made full recoveries and were discharged from home isolation across the state to further improve the number of so recovered cases to 41,746. As per the IDSP report, there are now 242 active Covid cases in Sikkim, of whom 28 are admitted in hospital, including the five in ICU and four in HDU wards here. On the vaccination front, 4,508 people took the precautionary third dose of Covishield in the State on wednesday and 134 other adults took their regular dose of Covishield. Similarly, 28 children aged

between 12 to 14 years were vaccinated with CorBevax and 52 in the 15 to 18 years age-group received their Covaxin jabs on Wednesday in Sikkim.
