Cross-Fit Sukhim to decide the Fittest in Sikkim

Gangtok, 05 Jan:

Sikkim is set to host its first cross fit event, ‘Cross Fit Sukhim,’ on 22 and 23 January.

The two-day event will have a seminar on the first day and Cross Fit Competitions for the titles of Fittest Man and Fittest Woman on 23 January. The state-level event is being jointly organized by Iron Pump Sweat Shop, Fit Stop, Bobby’s Gym and Namchi Indoor Gym & Fitness.

Addressing a press conference here today, general secretary of the organizing committee, Sunil Gurung, highlighted that cross fit was a popular sport in the fitness industry across the world and involved strength, stamina, endurance, speed and flexibility.

He said that the sport was gaining popularity in Sikkim as well and that the upcoming event was primarily to further promote cross fit in the State.

Speaking on the event, another member of the organizing committee, Subash Gurung informed that the seminar will focus on supplements, exercise programming, anabolic steroids and nutrition. Founder and CEO of MediFit Education, Mumbai, Dr Mahesh Kumar, will be present as the main resource person.

The cross fit competition will be held at Khel Gaon, Reshithang. He mentioned that manager-cum-coach of CRPF team, Borun Yumnam from Delhi is also scheduled to attend as a special guest to demonstrate bodybuilding poses.

Bikash Khawas, in turn, informed that the cross fit competition will have challenges like walking lunges, burpees, slam ball throw, overhead squat, jump-rope [skipping] and pistol squat.

The winner of Fittest Man and Fittest Woman titles will receive a cash prize of Rs 50,000 each and participants will get medals on completing the tasks of the competition.

There is no entry fee for participating in the competition and the organizers expect around 50 participants in this first edition of the competition.
