CS chairs meeting on mock exercise related to earthquakes

The Chief Secretary, Government of Sikkim, SC Gupta chaired a meeting regarding Table Top Exercise (TTEx) at Conference Hall, Tashiling Secretariat, in Gangtok today.
This exercise was held in regards to the Mock Exercise (ME) related to Earthquake Disasters and the same will be organised again by Sikkim Disaster Management Authority (SSDMA), LRDM in co-ordination with National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) on 10th March 2022.
The welcome address was delivered by the Disaster Response Commissioner cum Secretary, LRDM Department, SaralaRai.
The opening remarks was given by the Chief Secretary, Government of Sikkim, SC Gupta. He said that, Disaster Management awareness is to be followed by the State and there should be a proper plan regarding rescues and rehabilitations. He also extended his concern for the State coordination plans, table top and mock exercises and drills which would guide in stimulating such Disaster occurrences.
Lt. General (Retd.), Ata Hasnain, discussed about the State being prone to Disasters and said that mitigation projects will be introduced in future which will mostly focus on Disaster Management. He said that hilly area like Sikkim require Helipads as this will be a great medium to provide medical care during any Disaster.
The District Collector- South gave a brief presentation about the Disaster Management plan which included few conducted incident discussions, earthquake scenarios, reviewing preparedness and mock exercises.
Major General (Retd.), Sr. Consultant, NDMA, SudhirBahl conducted Table Top Exercise where he discussed about Incident Response System (IRS) Module which includes effective response requirements, fullproof communications and detailed planning. He said, IRS operates through organisational structure.
IRS is supported by IRT (Incident Response Team) which is headed by the Incident Commander and others including Government officials during Disaster Management.
The Table Top Exercise was conducted inorder to train the Government officials from various Departments and make them aware about their responsibilities related to Disaster Management Plans. The exercise also included an interactive session between the members of NDMA and the officials. The Table Top Exercise meeting discussed about the cooperative roles between the various Departments, IRT, EOC, SEOC and District Collectors in order to have a proper Disaster Management Plan in the State.
The meeting was attended by the officials from civil services, District Collectors from all the districts, Telecommunication sectors and other various State Government Departments.
