Culture Minister inaugurates Hyangla Dhim in Gangtok

Culture Minister Samdup Lepcha inaugurated Hyangla Dhim (Tamang Bhawan) in Gangtok on Thursday. Urban Development Minister, Arun Upreti was also present as special guest.

The Bhawan, located in Upper Syari near Hotel Royal Plaza, has five rooms, two dormitories, one hall and a prayer center.

President of Sikkim Tamang Buddhist Association, Binod Yonzon, informed that the construction of the bhawan started in 2012 and was finally completed in 2019 but due to Covid the inauguration was delayed.

The bhawan has been constructed at a cost of Rs 2.7 crore.

The main purpose of the Bhawan is to provide shelter to the needy who come to Gangtok from far-flung areas. It can also provide space for functions for which a nominal fee will be charged, he informed.

Addressing the gathering, Minister Samdup Lepcha congratulated the entire Sikkim Tamang Buddhist Association for this new Hyangla Dhim. He also assured support from the government to build an annexe building for the Bhawan.

The programme was also addressed by Minister Arun Upreti wherein he stressed on the importance of preserving traditional attire of every community of Sikkim.

Sikkim Tamang Buddhist Association felicitated Nima Dorjee Lama of Gangtok for his great contributions towards the Tamang community and also for playing a great role in constructing the Hyangla Dhim.

MLA Farwanti Tamang, Chairman Basant Tamang, Padma Shri awardee GS Lama and other members of Sikkim Tamang Buddhist Association were also present in the programme.
