Daily cases calm down to 6 new cases in Sikkim; 5,537 receive vaccine jabs


Gangtok, 08 Apr: After a rash of 54 cases detected in the past two days, it came as a relief of sorts for

Sikkim that only six new cases of novel coronavirus were reported in the last 24 hours in the State. In his daily health bulletin on Thursday, Health Department State IEC Officer, Sonam Gyaltsen Bhutia, informed that a total of 176 samples were tested in the State on Wednesday, from which these six cases were picked up. While four of the new cases were picked up in RT-PCR testing of 131 samples, two

persons tested positive for COVID-19 in rapid antigen testing of 43 samples. While providing details

about the new cases reported from in and around the capital, the IEC Office informed that a person from Paljor Stadium Road and another from Pani House have tested positive. Also, a person who has

given his address as Pani House cannot be traced on the address provided or contacted on the phone number he has provided. He has been urged to immediately contact the concerned authorities. Further, one person from Sun Pharma quarters at Ranipool, one from the ICAR colony at Saramsa [Jalipool] and a staff member of Rongli PHC in East have also tested positive for COVID-19. Accordingly, the Rongli PHC has been contained for 48 hours. In the meanwhile, the number of recovered cases of COVID-19 in Sikkim further improved to 5,980 with two more recoveries recorded in the State. Sikkim’s tally of confirmed cases of COVID-19 has now reached 6,323 and there are currently 97 active cases of coronavirus in the State. On the vaccination front, 5,537 people received COVID vaccines on Wednesday in different parts of the State, of whom 5,144 received their first shot of the vaccine while 393 completed their vaccine schedule with the second shot. 2162 persons [2014 first dose & 148 second dose] received the vaccine jab in East District, 914 [872 first dose & 42 second dose] in West District, 688 persons [545 first dose & 143 second dose] in North District and 1773 persons [1713 first dose & 60 second dose] in South District. In category-wise break-up of vaccination, the IEC Officer

informs that 25 healthcare workers [04 first dose & 21 second dose], 180 frontline workers [03 first dose & 177 second dose] and 5332 persons in age group of 45 years & above [5137 first dose & 195 second dose] received the COVID vaccine shots on Wednesday.
