Daily cases stay low withonly 5 new detections



Gangtok, 28 Jan: Five new cases of novel coronavirus were reported in Sikkim in the last 24 hours taking the number of confirmed cases reported so far in the State to 6,084. With this, the noticeably low number of daily cases continues, a news made even more reassuring with the confirmation that there is no one so incapacitated by Covid-19 to require admission into the ICU. There are currently no patients in the ICU facility of the Covid-dedicated STNM Hospital. Meanwhile, 5,752 COVID patients have already

been discharged from home and facility isolations with three more patients making full recoveries

on Wednesday. In his daily health bulletin on Thursday, Health Department State IEC Officer,

Sonam Gyaltsen ,Bhutia informed that of the five new cases, four were reported from East District

and one from West Sikkim. These five cases were detected from the testing of 199 samples on Thursday - four through RT-PCR testing of 141 samples and one in rapid antigen testing of 50 samples. While providing details about the new cases, he informed one person from Burtuk, one from Rhenock, one from Mayfair staff quarters and one from 5th Mile-Tadong in East District and one from Tikjek in West District tested positive. Also on Thursday, 455 more health workers were vaccinated for COVID-19

on Thursday. While giving the break-up of the vaccination, Mr Bhutia informed that 65 persons in Rural

East District, 90 at STNM hospital, 100 at Central Referral Hospital, 50 in West District, 50 in North District and 100 in South District were vaccinated today.
