EU's IURC agrees to support low carbon sustainable development in Gangtok

Gangtok, 20 Oct:

A team of experts from the International Urban and Regional Cooperation unit of the European Union were in town recently to hold deliberations with officers of the Gangtok Municipal Corporation, Urban Development Department and Transport Department to explore low carbon options to improve the urban experience of living in Gangtok.

A GMC press communique, issued a full ten days after the IURC team was here [on 10-11 Oct], informs that "during the visit, the team had fruitful discussion with the officers and from others department and they have agreed to provide support for waste management, urvban transport, urban development, etc., for the Gangtok city."

IURC is a programme supported by the EU which seeks to help local urban governments worldwide achieve Low Carbon Sustainable Development in cities.

The IURC, GMC informs, has been pairing European cities with cities from other parts of the world to deliberate common problems and discus ideas for sustainable growth.
