First ever Cross Fit event held in Gangtok
GANGTOK, 02 Mar:
The organizing committee of Sikkim’s first-ever cross fit event, Cross Fit Sukhim has thanked the participants, sponsors and supporters for their support the event.
The event was held on 27 Feb here at Manan Kendra where Kamal Rasaily emerged as Fittest Man of Sikkim 2022 and Tashi Lhamu Bhutia as Fittest Woman of Sikkim 2022. The first-ever state-level cross fit event was jointly organized by Iron Pump Sweat Shop, Fit Stop, Bobby’s Gym and Namchi indoor Gym & Fitness.
Addressing a press conference here today, CrossFit Sukhim general secretary, Sunil Gurung mentioned that a total of 28 participants from different parts of the State had participated in this first-ever cross fit event in the State.
“The grand success of the event has motivated us to give continuity to the event and to organize the next edition in a grander manner. Seeing the overwhelming response to the event, we are now organizing CrossFit Sukhim for children from 05 to 12 years later this year in the State,” he said.
He stated that the process to register Cross Fit Sukhim going on so that athletes from Sikkim in Cross Fit event can be sent for national and international events in the near future.
“We have also been working for the promotion of cross fit in the State by visiting gyms in different districts and we have been encouraging local gym owners and trainers to introduce cross fit in their respective gyms,” Mr Gurung said. He stated that Cross Fit Sukhim has been working on the theme ‘Fit Sikkim Fit India’ to promote health and fitness.
Cross Fit Sukhim members, Subash Gurung and Bikash Khawas expressed gratitude to athletes, officials, judges, sponsors and all supporters for being a part of the event for its success.
The title holder of Fittest Woman of Sikkim 2022, Tashi Lhamu Bhutia, who is a nurse by profession at STNM hospital, expressed her happiness on being able to win the title in her first ever participation in any competition.
“I had prepared for one month for this competition and the competition was very tough as it needs physical and mental fitness as well as good strategy and I am now really motivated after winning the competition,” she said.
Likewise, Fittest Man of Sikkim 2022 title holder, Kamal Rasaily thanked the organizers for providing an opportunity and a platform to participate in the cross-fit event for the first time in the State. He stated that cross fit competition is tough as its needs strength, stamina and endurance at the same time.
“I am really satisfied and happy on winning the title and I will practice more to defend my title in the next edition of the competition," he said.
It is informed that eight men’s athletes out of 25 were able to complete all six tasks of the competition, while all three women athletes completed all their tasks in the scheduled time. Winners of both categories received the cash prize of Rs 50,000 each.
