Govt Resolution endorsing tribal status for left-out communities passed.‘INCLUSION IN ST LIST WILL

GANGTOK, 11 Aug: Political Secretary to the CM and Sikkim Krantikari Morcha spokesperson, Jacob Khaling has expressed that the adoption of the government resolution seeking inclusion of remaining left out communities of Sikkim as Scheduled Tribe status by the State Assembly shows the sincere commitment of Sikkim Krantikari Morcha party towards this long pending political demand of the people of Sikkim. On behalf of the SKM party and its entire leadership and workers and people of Sikkim, he expressed his gratitude to the Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang for bringing and adopting this historic and important resolution in the State assembly. He also thanked Members of the State Legislative Assembly of SKM and BJP parties for unanimously supporting and passing this important and historic government resolution.

The one-day session of Sikkim Legislative Assembly on Monday has adopted the government resolution seeking inclusion of remaining left out communities of Sikkim as Scheduled Tribe.

Addressing a press conference this evening, Mr Khaling mentioned that the Minister for Social Justice & Welfare Department, Dr MK Sharma proposed this government resolution at 12:25 PM and it was seconded by Rumtek-Martam MLA, Sonam T. Venchungpa at 12:31 PM and stated that the resolution shows the sincere commitment of the State government towards Sikkimese people. During the discussion on the resolution, he stated that Upper Burtuk MLA, DR Thapa, Barfung MLA TT Bhutia and Soreng-Chakung MLA Aditya Golay thanked the State government and the CM for being able to be a part of the historic government resolution.

Mr Khaling mentioned that by seriousness on the issue the CM and the Leader of the House has placed all historical documents and arguments in the support of the resolution during the discussion on the resolution. He stated that the CM has also talked on the historical documents of the census of 1931 and 1941 and the CM has further mentioned to place this issue to the Centre on the basis of the Article 371F and historical documents related to this issue.

“SKM party is always sincere towards this issue of to provide tribal status to leftout communities of Sikkim and the party had worked sincerely on this issue when it was in the opposition by taken it to the Centre and SKM is still sincere and committed to this issue when it is now in the government,” he said.

Mr Khaling mentioned that as SKM has always been serious on this issue so the government has initially studied all legal aspects and validities to take up this issue ahead seriously and then it was vetted by the Law Department and then approved in the cabinet before placing the resolution in the assembly. He stated that the research and study of the SKM government on this issue shows that the earlier government was not so serious on this issue but did the drama just to mislead the people. He added that the earlier had not made any preparation or proper study on the issue to take it forward and even a member of the Treasury bench of the SDF government placed a private resolution on this issue.

“The absence of 35 years long MLA and 25 years of CM, Pawan Chamling in such a historic and important assembly session was a very sad and irresponsible act. Instead to share knowledge and experience in support of the resolution, his absence in the assembly without any information was very irresponsible and sad,” he said.

Mr Khaling informed that a high-level delegation led by the CM with MLAs of SKM and BJP and representatives of all communities would go to Delhi to place this issue in the Centre. He mentioned that the government would also try to take SDF lone MLA in the delegation if he agrees.
