Junior Olympic Games held for Namthang

Namchi, 01 Mar: Week-long Block Level 1st Inter School Junior Olympic Games was

organized in Namthang, South Sikkim under the banner of 'Sports For Peace and Development'

by South district Department of Sports and Youth Affairs, Government of Sikkim with the support of Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India. On the concluding day today, Asha Kharel was present as the chief guest accompanied by Namthang BDO, panchayat president, principals and students of participating schools. The sports persons selected from this Olympic Games will get to play

at district level and then further shortlisted for the state level. The selected players will then take part in national level sports tournament of 'Khelo India 2021-22'. The Olympic Games for under 14 and under

17 boys and girls categories were played under the disciplines of athletic, archery, boxing, football,

table tennis, taekwondo, badminton and karate. On the day, football match for under-17 girls was played wherein Kabrey Secondary School defeated Bikmat Senior Secondary School with a score of 2-0.

In under-17 boys, Kateng Secondary School beat Bikmat Senior Secondary School with a score of 2-0.

All winning teams and athletes will be representing Namthang BAC in the District level Sports competition to be held in Namchi.
