Justice Maheshwari sworn in as Chief Justice of Sikkim

Gangtok, 06 Jan: Justice Jitendra Kumar Maheshwari was sworn in as the 21st Chief Justice of Sikkim this morning at Raj Bhawan. Governor Ganga Prasad administered the oath of affirmation and secrecy

to Justice Maheshwari. Chief Secretary, SC Gupta read out the notification of transfer of Chief Justice Maheswari from Andhra Pradesh High Court to High Court of Sikkim. Chief Minister, PS Tamang, cabinet ministers and Judges of the High Court of Sikkim, senior officials of the state government, High Court Registry, members of the bar and bench were also present in the swearing- in-ceremony.

Justice Maheshwari takes over from Justice Arup Kumar Goswami, who was transferred to the High

Court of Andhra Pradesh. Justice Maheswari was born on 29 June, 1961 in a small village of Joura

District of Morena. He was a practicing lawyer in Gwalior before he was elevated to the bench. He has

served in the High Court of Madhya Pradesh till September 2019 and was transferred and elevated

to Chief Justice of Andhra Pradesh.
