Late Gnawang Youngda Lepcha Compound Archery Memorial Cup gets underway

The second edition of the Late Gnawang Youngda Lepcha Compound Archery Memorial Cup 2021 got underway here at the archery field at Tathangchen on Sunday.

The fortnight-long tournament is being organized by Sikkim Himalayan Sporting Club and its being participated in by 12 teams from different parts of the State.

The inaugural match was played between Denzong Boys and Sichey Mavericks with Sichey Mavericks coming out tops, winning 56-04.

Sikkim Housing Development Board chairperson, Karma Tashi Bhutia, was present as chief guest for the inaugural day accompanied by family members of the late Gnawang Youngda Lepcha.

Speaking to media persons, Advisor to the Information Technology Department, Tenzing Lamtha, who is also the founder of Sikkim Himalayan SC, explained that this tournament in the memory of the late Gnawang Youngda Lepcha, who was a sports enthusiast and was a senior archer from Tathangchen, was a gesture as much to celebrate his memory as to promote and preserve the sport of traditional archery in the State.
