Minister Sharma highlights on the upcoming Krishi Avam Pashu Dhan Mela 2020

Gangtok, 22 Dec (IPR): Minister for Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services, Agriculture and Horticulture Departments, Lok Nath Sharma convened a press conference at the conference hall of Tashiling Sceretariat today, to disseminate information on the upcoming 'Krishi Avam Pashu Dhan Mela 2020 'for 13 constituencies of East District scheduled to be held on the 24th of December 2020 at Rangpo.

Minister informed that Sikkim Government is organising a month long Pashudhan mela for the East District to facilitate and encourage the farmers to take new opportunities in the field of dairy, poultry, piggery, goat farming and agriculture sector.

The Minister apprised about various schemes initiated by the State Government for the benefit of the farmers. He added that the State government is facilitating the farmers to take maximum of its benefits from the programme with a motto of 'Development Through Credit' and back end credit benefits on the spot, he added. He also added that if the people take the benefit of these schemes, Sikkim will be a self-reliant State in near future. He added that State government has also decided to give minimum support price on organic products like orange, turmeric, cardamom, buckwheat and ginger. He also informed that 1400 forms for loan subsidy till date in the East District were distributed, out of which 477 loans are in the process of being sanctioned after scrutinising proper documents by the bank.

The forms that have been verified for loan sanction has an application of 28.5% for diary, 14.6% for piggery, 3.9% for poultry, 12.3% for goatery, 0.2% for sheep, 2.7% for ginger, 2.09% for cardamom, 2.3% for horticulture, 0.2% for banana, 1.25% for vegetables, 0.2% for potato, 1.88% for green house, 0.2% for agriculture and 0.4% for bee keeping.

The Minister also appealed to the farmers to take maximum of the benefits and various other schemes of the Government to strengthen the economic condition of the farmers and people in agricultural sector.

Concluding his address, the Minister requested the people of the farming community to participate in the Pashudhan Mela 2020 at Rangpo on the 24 December and make proper use of this opportunity.
