Namshi premieres in Namchi
Namchi, 27th December, 2020: All Sikkim Bhutia Association of South District hosted a premier show of newly released Bhutia film Namshi: The Soul, in movie theater Imperial Talkies in Namchi, South Sikkim today. The president of All Sikkim Bhutia Association, South District Samten Bhutia explained that the Association helped in organizing the premier show and also in marketing the show among the locals of the same district.
This two hours long movie is completely in Bhutia language, subtitled in English, telling the everyday lifestyle of the people in Sikkim and their beliefs in deities, ethics, and karma. Produced, directed, edited and storylined by Kunzang Rapten Denjongpo, Namshi is filmed in the rural places of North Sikkim and elsewhere. Actor Karma Yongzing Bhutia said, "This project is a small try of ours to conserve our language (Bhutia). We believe that the film we have made helps us reaching the wider audiences for Bhutia speaking people, especially younger generation."
All the actors for the debuted film are from Sikkim; Karma Yongzing Denjongpo, Dawthi Denjongpo, Sonam Thendup Denjongpo, Passang Tshering Denjongpo, Karma Chewang Denjongpo, Pema Chuki Lachungpa, Sonam Tshering Denjongpo, Kunga Wangdak Denjongpo, Sangay Wangchuk Denjongpo, Palzom Denjongpo, Yesum Denjongpo and Gyatso Denjongpo; the Bhutia songs in the film were written and composed and sung by; Karma Yongzing Denjongpo and with him was female singer Kesang Lhaden Denjongpo; who were all present and felicited in the beginning of the show by All Sikkim Bhutia Association, South District. The music was for the film was done by Suman Karki and film's theme flute was played by Pritam Chettri. Among the viewers of the premiered film were the Bhutia speaking locals, associated sponsors, and dignitaries of official levels of the government of Sikkim.
