New districts will benefit not just Pakyong and Soreong, but all of Sikkim: CM

Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang joined a meeting to discuss the new districts proposal here at Manan Kendra today.

A press communique from the Chief Minister's Office informs that the CM stressed that the decision will be beneficial for all Sikkimese and not just those belonging to these areas. Pakyong and Soreong, it may be recalled, are on their way to becoming districts from the year 2022 onwards.

Commenting on the presentations made today, the CM remarked that the work done in advance by the concerned authorities were the first steps towards the establishment of the new districts.

Speaking on the idea behind the decision, he stated that the main focus of the Government is to provide the best facilities to the people, adding that the decision was taken keeping in mind the collective welfare of the people.

The Chief Minister reiterated the initiative of Governance at the doorstep, which seeks to provide basic facilities at the doorsteps of the people.

He emphasised the use of IT for various official works to increase efficiency and urged the concerned officials to adopt IT as a foundation for the upcoming districts and build on it.

He also urged the Ministers, MLAs, Advisors and others to familiarise themselves with these technologies for swift implementation of works and other matters.

Further, he stated that the Government functions as per the standard norms and policies and urged all to be mindful of these guidelines and adhere to them for smooth functioning.

Similarly, he advised the concerned individuals to follow these norms and policies to build a stronger foundation for the new districts and discuss best measures for the collective welfare of the new districts and the people, the release adds.

Referring to the recent budget session, he informed the gathering about certain financial expenditure of the state and also about the meetings being conducted with individual departments regarding the management of funds, completion of works as scheduled and other matters.

The Chief Minister emphasised collectively working towards the welfare of the state and encouraged all to adopt a healthy working mentality to transform the work culture in the state. He reiterated the recent decision of the Government to provide discretionary funds to the ADCs (Development) and BDOs which can be used during emergencies and have also provided vehicles where required.

Since the new guidelines for unlocking are applicable from today, the Chief Minister appealed to the people to be cautious and not interpret this as the end of the pandemic and directed the concerned officials to remain vigilant and not permit any form of large gatherings for the next few weeks.

Likewise, he added that the Government is preparing for the third wave of the pandemic and has been adopting every necessary precaution. He affirmed his faith in the state's health infrastructure, doctors, nurses, etc and added that they are more than capable of handling any sort of challenges.

The Chief Minister added that the Government has prioritised Health and Education sectors and that despite several hurdles, they have been persevering to further enhance the facilities in the state.

Earlier, MLA Em Prasad Sharma thanked the Chief Minister for fulfilling the aspirations of the people of Pakyong. He added that the decision will speed up the process of development of the area and the state and assured to work with dedication towards making it a model district.

Likewise, MLA Aditya Golay also expressed his gratitude towards the Chief Minister, Cabinet Ministers and the Government of Sikkim for this historic decision to make Soreong a district. He added that modern amenities should be integrated into the new districts from the start and also placed a few requirements of the new district.
