New infections continue to ease, test positivity remains under-2% in Sikkim

Sikkim’s daily test positivity rate for Covid came in at 1.8% on Sunday with five new cases being detected from the screening of 264 samples in the previous 24 hours. What is more, Sikkim also completed a full week today without any Covid deaths. The last fatality due to the virus in Sikkim, the 400th, was on 07 November.

The state’s tally of confirmed cases of COVID-19 has now reached 32,101.

As per the Daily Report of COVID-19 in Sikkim released by the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme of Health Department, while four people tested positive in RT-PCR testing of 181 samples, one case was picked up in rapid antigen testing of 82 samples.

Four of the new cases were registered in East District and one in South District.

On the other hand, six more people were discharged from home isolation on Saturday after making full recoveries. With this, Sikkim’s count of recovered cases has inched up to 31,247, giving Sikkim a recovery rate of 98.4%.

There are 120 active Covid cases in the State at present, most of whom are on their way to recovery under home isolation and 22, only one of whom is under 18 years of age, are with symptoms severe enough to require hospitalisation.

Of those in hospital, two are admitted in ICU.

About vaccines administered on Saturday, a total of 1,656 people received their Covishield jab yesterday, 125 getting their first shot and 1,531 completing their vaccination schedule with the second dose of the vaccine.
