NIC building inaug. at secrit complex; CM acknowledges seamless e-services provided during pandmic.
Gangtok, 22 Sept [IPR: Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang inaugurated a National Informatics Centre NIC) and National Knowledge Network (NKN) here at Tashiling Secretariat complex today.The Chief Minister expressed gratitude towards members of NIC at both State and Central level. He expressed pleasure on being part of the inauguration of NIC and NKN buildings which will be beneficial to the people of Sikkim. The CM acknowledged the contribution of NIC Sikkim during the Covid-19 pandemic as they were the only active e-Government service and he hailed the e-services of NIC which reached the remote parts of the State during the pandemic. He expressed hope that the convenience provided by the e-services would make the lives of citizens of Sikkim much more plain sailing. He requested the line departments to take this opportunity to serve the people of Sikkim by enhancing various e-services in the State. In the end, the CM thanked the DG, NIC, Dr Neeta Verma, for participating in the programme and hoped that Pakyong and Soreng along with all the blocks of the State will be able to establish NIC branches which will ease the lives of the citizens living in the rural areas. He assured that the Government will leave no stone unturned in its commitment of providing best e-services in every part of the State. Earlier, Secretary, Building and Housing Department, Rajen Sharma gave a brief technical report of the NIC floor and NKN floor. Additional Chief Secretary, Tourism and Civil Aviation Department, Government of Sikkim, Dr. K. Jayakumar, gave a power point presentation of NIC Sikkim e-governance initiatives. He informed that the objective of Ease of Doing Business is to give simple regulations for business and stronger protection of property rights. Further, he talked on issues such as ease of renewals and issuance cost and inspections. In the end, he invited the line departments and government agencies for a training workshop on EoDB. Senior Technical Director, NIC, Dr LP Sharma, gave a brief history of NIC Sikkim. He also talked about the activities of NIC Sikkim which included
Network, Video Conference services provided by NIC during State and Central level meetings, e-governance services, NIC Ease of Doing Business (EoDB) services during elections and Artificial Intelligence (AI) based landslide alert. During the programme, virtual inauguration of Online Central
Inspection System was conducted by the CM. Distribution of memento to Development, VC and Networking team, Security and Housekeeping staff for their unconditional support during Covid-19 pandemic was also done through the hands of the HCM. The Chief Minister was accompanied
by Minister for Education Kunga Nima Lepcha, Minister for Building and Housing Sanjit Kharel, Chairman, IT Department, Navraj Gurung, ACS Tourism Dr K Jayakumar, Secretary,
Building and Housing Department, Rajen Sharma, DIG-Range Prawin Gurung, and officials of NIC Sikkim and NIC HQ, New Delhi. Further, the Chief Minister was joined by Director General, NIC,
New Delhi, Dr Neeta Verma, District Collector-East, Ragul K, HoDs, NIC representatives from four districts of Sikkim through virtual mode.
