NITI Aayog workshop in Sikkim on SDG India Index 2020–21


Gangtok, 04 Aug (IPR): A day-long State level workshop on Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) India Index 2020–21 and Multidimensional Poverty Index: Focus on the State was organised by NITI Aayog in coordination with the Government of Sikkim at a local hotel in Ranipool today.

The introductory session was chaired by Chief Secretary, Government of Sikkim, SC Gupta, in the presence of Additional Chief Secretary, Education Department, GP Upadhyaya, Secretary, Planning and Development, Rinzing Chewang Bhutia, Director General, DESME, Devika Sharma Chettri, and Advisor, NITI Aayog, Sanyukta Samaddar along with Heads of Departments and representatives of various line departments.

Chief Secretary, SC Gupta, in his brief address said that Sikkim has been performing judiciously well in most of the key sectors in the State in terms of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and holds a remarkable position in creating sustainable prosperity despite rising challenges.

Expressing concern in certain sectors, the Chief Secretary urged all the departments concerned to ensure proper implementation of various programmes for acceleration of SD goals in the State. He further stressed on inclusion of all four districts for tracking progress and called for greater clarity in sustainable development reporting.

The introductory session was also addressed by Additional Chief Secretary, Education Department, GP Upadhyaya, wherein he encouraged the Heads of Departments and officials concerned to provide updated and accurate data for reflection in the MIS portals of the Ministries concerned.

Advisor, NITI Aayog, Sanyukta Samaddar, presented a brief report on the details of the Sustainable Development Goal India Index and Dashboard 2020–21 and gave an overview of Sikkim's performance.

Earlier, the welcome address was delivered by Secretary, Planning and Development, Rinzing Chewang Bhutia.

The introductory session was followed by a technical session wherein reports on SD goals and indicators were presented by DESME and NITI Aayog representatives.
