No new cases and new record number of vaccinations in Sikkim ACTIVE COVID CASES DROP UNDER 50


Gangtok, 22 Feb: A total of 1,594 healthcare and frontline workers were vaccinated for COVID-19 in Sikkim on Monday even as the Sunday pause allowed the State a breather and no new cases were

reported. In his daily health bulletin this evening, Health Department State IEC Officer, Sonam

Gyaltsen Bhutia, informed that 153 healthcare workers and 1,441 frontline workers were vaccinated at different locations across the State on Monday. He added that of the 153 healthcare workers, 78 were receiving their first dose of the vaccine, while 75 their second dose of the two-shot CoviShield regime.

The vaccination drive against Covid-19 had begun in Sikkim on 16 Jan and today’s was a new record on the number of shots administered in a single-day. The previous record was held by 19 Feb, last Friday, when 1,537 CoviShield shots were administered. In the meanwhile, the State’s tally of confirmed

Covid cases held at 6,132 with no new cases of novel coronavirus being reported in the last 24

hours. Mr Bhutia informed that 19 samples tested by TrueNat and 28 through rapid antigen testing on

Sunday, all returned negative for COVID-19 and no RT-PCR tests were conducted since the VRD

lab at STNM Hospital is closed on Sundays. On the other hand, three more Covid patients recovered and were discharged from isolation on Sunday to bring down the number of active cases to 49. With this, the total figure of recovered cases in the State has improved to 5,851
