No new Covid deaths and recoveries continue to outstrip new cases in Sikkim

Gangtok, 01 Sept: Sikkim’s recovery rate inched up to 95.2% on Wednesday with 130 people beating

the virus and getting discharged from home and facility isolations after making full recoveries in the last

24 hours. Against the 29,954 people who have tested positive for Covid in Sikkim since 28 Feb, 2020, as of today, 28,262 have already made fully recoveries and nearly a thousand are well on their way to recovery recuperating under home or facility isolation. Less than a hundred of the active cases have symptoms severe enough to require hospitalization. What should also spread some more joy in the State is that there were no Covid deaths here in the past 24 hours and the Covid toll held at 370 for the

second consecutive day. As per the Daily Report of COVID-19 in Sikkim released by the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme of the Health Department this morning, 76 people tested positive for Covid from the screening of 852 samples in the State on Tuesday. With this, the State’s daily test positivity rate continued to remain below 10% at 8.9%. While 40 samples returned positive from RT-PCR testing of 387 samples, 36 new cases were picked up in rapid antigen testing of 463 samples. Out of the 76 new cases, 33 were registered in East District, 11 in West District, 26 in South District and 06 in North District. There are currently 1,039 active Covid cases in Sikkim, of whom 12 COVID patients are admitted in ICU facilities of STNM hospital and Central Referral Hospital. The past 24 hours saw only 13 new hospitalizations.
