One more Covid-related fatality takes Sikkim’s toll to 131
Gangtok, 19 Jan:
After several days without any Covid-related mortality, Sikkim reported its 131st death due to Novel Coronavirus when a 73-year-old male from Sichey, Gangtok, passed away here at STNM Hospital on Monday night. The death has been registered as a COVID death with comorbidities as the patient was suffering from various ailments.
In his daily health bulletin on Tuesday, Health Department State IEC Officer, Sonam Gyaltsen Bhutia, informed that the 73-year-old passed away at 11:55 PM last night due to a cardiac arrest.
The patient was admitted to STNM Hospital after testing positive for COVID-19 in rapid antigen testing earlier the same day. The patient was suffering from the chronic kidney disease and was on dialysis and also had diabetes and other ailments, it is informed.
Meanwhile, Sikkim registered 14 fresh cases of novel coronavirus in the last 24 hours taking the tally of confirmed cases in the State to 6,052 on Tuesday.
On the other hand, the number of recovered cases of COVID-19 here has further improved to 5,670 with nine more patients recovering on Monday. The number of active cases in the State now stands at 156, of whom two are currently in the ICU facility of the COVID-dedicated STNM Hospital.
Mr Bhutia informed that of the 14 new cases, 12 were reported from East District and two from South Sikkim. These cases were found during the testing of 247 samples on Monday, of which 12 were picked up in RT-PCR testing of 194 samples and two from rapid antigen testing of 36 samples.
Among the new cases reported from in and around the capital area are three persons from Development Area, three from Sichey, one from Gairi Gaon-Tadong and one from Maney Gaon, Lower Shyari.
Likewise, two persons from Marchak, one from Aho and one from Sumin Lingzey in East District and one from Melli Dara and one from Sumbuk in South District were also found positive for COVID-19, it is informed.
Mr Bhutia further informed that after Aayush Hospital at the STNM hospital complex, COVID vaccination was also launched at Namchi District Hospital in South District and at Singtam District Hospital in East District on Tuesday.
He informs that a total of 238 health workers, including 85 health workers at Namchi District Hospital and 75 health workers at Singtam District Hospital were vaccinated today.
Thus far, 358 health workers have been vaccinated in the State.
