Only 4 fresh cases and no new Covid deaths in Sikkim

Sikkim’s daily test positivity rate for Covid-19 slipped to 1.5% on Tuesday after hitting nearly 5% a day earlier. As per the Daily Report of Covid-19 in Sikkim issued by the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme of Health Department , four new cases were recorded in the State in the past 24 hours from the screening of 269 samples.

Of these four cases, three were registered in East District from 182 samples and one in West District from 44 samples. All the 37 samples tested in South district and six in North returned negative.

The tally of confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Sikkim since testing began on 28 Feb, 2020, has now reached 39,072.

While three people tested positive in RT-PCR testing of 140 samples, the fourth case was detected in rapid antigen testing of 128 samples.

Also over the same 24 hours, Sikkim’s count of recovered cases inched up to 37,836 with eight more Covid patients making full recoveries and getting discharged from home isolation. Sikkim's current recovery rate stands at 98.7%.

The number of active cases has dipped below 50 and at present there are only 48 people with Covid in the State, one of whom has severe symptoms, two are down with moderate symptoms and 45 are either asymptomatic or are only mildly symptomatic.

The Covid load on hospitals is thankfully low with only 5 Covid patients in hospital at present, only one of whom is in ICU.

Sikkim also completed two days without any Covid deaths today and the toll continues to hold at 443. The last Covid fatality in Sikkim was recorded on 27 Feb.

In continuation of the vaccination drive, 551 doses of Covaxin were administered to children aged between 15 to 18 years - 513 completing their vaccination schedule with the second dose and 38 receiving their first dose.

Yesterday, only five adults received their regular Covishield jabs - two getting their first jab and three completing their vaccination schedule with the second dose.

More people here received their booster shots yesterday with 11 above-60 year olds getting their precautionary dose and 91 frontline workers getting similarly vaccinated.

Thus far, 37,699 people, including health workers, frontline workers and above 60 year olds, have received the precautionary dose in the State.
