Positivity rate drops under 1% again

Sikkim's daily test positivity rate for Covid-19 dipped under 1% today ad came in at 0.9% with the screening of 228 samples in the past 24 hours returning only two positive.

Both the cases have been registered in East District and Sikkim's cumulative count of confirmed cases since testing began on 28 Feb, 2020, inched up to 39,143.

As per the Daily Report of Covid-19 in Sikkim released by the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme of Health Department on Tuesdy morning, while 112 samples were screened via RT-PCR [to return two positive], 116 samples were put through Rapid Antigen Testing.

The IDSP report also reflects that while 158 samples were screened in East district, 67 samples were tested in South, seven in North and only one in West Sikkim yesterday.

With infections having dropped, recoveries too are down to a trickle, and no new recoveries were recorded in the past 24 hours. The number of patients who have recovered from Covid in Sikkim thus continues to hold at 37,938 at a current recovery rate of 98.8%.

At present, there are seven active Covid cases in Sikkim, two of which are presenting severe symptoms. Both these patients are in ICU at present, one of them admitted yesterday itself. The remaining five are either asymptomatic or have only mild symptoms.

Reassuringly, no Covid death was recorded in Sikkim in the past 24 hours and the toll continues to hold at 452. The last Covid death in Sikkim was recorded on 27 March.

Meanwhile, on the vaccination front, 521 children aged between 12 to 15 received their corBEvax jabs yesterday and 123 children aged 15 to 18 received their Covaxin shots [81 first dose and 42 second shot], while 51 adults received their Covishield jabs [10 first dose, 41 second dose]. Also yesterday, 45 persons were administered the precautionary third dose of Covishield.
