Recoveries outnumber new cases after morethan a week of runaway Covid infections

Gangtok, 26 Jul: Sikkim recorded another COVID-19 death today taking the state’s COVID death toll to 331. The 331st COVID death has been reported from STNM Hospital in the last 24 hours. Sikkim had received a breather from Covid deaths yesterday when it went the previous 24 hours without any Covid

fatalities. Meanwhile, over the same 24 hour period, Sikkim recorded more recoveries than new cases, something it has not registered since 17 July, nine days back when 219 people had made full recoveries against 157 new cases. As per the Daily Report of Covid-19 released by the Integrated disease Surveillance Programme of the Health Department this morning, against the 179 new cases detected in the 24 hours prior to 8AM Monday, 222 people had made full recoveries and were discharged from home and facility isolation. Sikkim’s count of confirmed cases of COVID-19 has reached 25,339 with the 179 new cases. These new cases were picked up from the testing of 1,427

samples on Sunday, giving the State a daily test positivity rate of 12.5%. While 140 of the fresh cases were detected in RT-PCR testing of 1,095 samples, the remaining 39 were found in rapid antigen

testing of 329 samples. Of the new cases, 115 were registered in West District, 41 in South District, 21 in East District and 02 in North District. With the 222 new recoveries, a total of 21,771 people have beaten the virus in Sikkim and made full recoveries. There are currently 2,970 active Covid cases in the State, of whom 103 are in hospital and the rest are recovering in home or facility isolation. Hospitals saw only six new admissions in the past 24 hours and STNM Hospital and CRH-Tadong, the only

facilities with Covid ICUs are attending to 17 patients in need of intensive case.
