Recovering Fellow Brothers win Rehab Futsal tournament

Recovering Fellow Brothers, Gangtok, emerged champions of the Grace Inter Rehab Futsal Tournament 2020 played here at Paljor Stadium over the weekend.

In a nail-biting final match played on Sunday afternoon, Recovering Fellow Brothers edged past United Fellowship, Siliguri, 2-1 to lift the trophy.

The final match has Lok Sabha MP, Indra Hang Subba, as chief guest, accompanied by Advisor to Information Technology Department, Tenzing Lamtha, Additional Political Secretary to the CM [East], Tshering Wangchuk Lepcha, who is also the chief patron of the organizing committee, and Miss Bharat 2020 Nisha Subba present as guests of honour.

The two-day long futsal tournament was organised by Gangtok-based Grace Detoxification Centre. A total of 18 teams from Sikkim and North Bengal region had participated in the tournament.

The winning team received a cash prize of Rs 20,000 along with a trophy, while the runners-up team received Rs 15,000 cash and trophy.

Biraj Limboo of Freedom Facility bagged the Most Promising Player Trophy, while Sahil Subba of Grace Foundation, Siliguri, was adjudged the Best Goalkeeper of the tournament.

The Man of the Match trophy awarded to Zigmee of United Fellowship, Siliguri, while Suman Gazmer of Recovering Brothers, Gangtok received the Man of the Tournament honours. Jagriti received the trophy for Best Team and Devasish of United Fellowship, Siliguri, emerged the Highest Scorer.

The Lok Sabha MP congratulated the organising committee and participating teams for giving a positive message to the society through the tournament.

He shared that such sporting events help recovering members return to the mainstream. He stressed upon the importance of sports to live a healthy and productive life and assured that the State government will extend all possible support to such events in the future to encourage the younger generation.

On the occasion, Mr Subba also congratulated Sikkim Police for their commendable job against drug peddling and saving the younger generation from substance abuse. He further urged everyone to give their contributions to support recovering members and to free society from substance abuse.

The final day of the tournament also witnessed a friendly futsal match between Press Club of Sikkim and Dirty Angles Motorcycle Club, which ended in a 2-2 draw.
