RMRT central executive body calls on CM, thanks him and submits memorandum

Gangtok, 06 Dec:

Members of the Renjyong Mutanchi Rong Tarjum, the Sikkim Lepcha Association, central executive body called on Chief Minister PS Tamang at his official residence at Mintokgang on 05 December, Saturday, accompanied by Roads & Bridges Minister Samdup Lepcha.

During the visit, RMRT thanked the Chief Minister and felicitated him for his contributions towards the welfare of the Lepcha community and for declaring separate reservation for 5 Lepcha students of Dzongu under the Chief Minister's Free Scholarship Scheme, appointment of appreciable numbers Advisors, Chairpersons and Additional Political Secretary under different departments of the state and also for renaming of Yuksam Sr Sec School as Punu Mun Solong Memorial Govt. Sr. Secondary school, a press release informs.

During the meeting, RMRT president, Chewang Norbu Lepcha, who is also the chairperson of the Primitive Tribal Welfare Board placed a brief report on RMRT's activities to the Chief Minister and submitted a memorandum listing grievances on behalf of the community.

The Chief Minister extended his best wishes to all the members of the newly formed central executive body of the RMRT and ensured all necessary support from the Government for the upliftment of the community, the release adds.

The Chief Minister also stressed that RMRT take initiatives for the benefit of the marginalised section of the people who are deprived and hail from remote villages.

In conclusion, the CM extended warm greetings for the upcoming Lepcha new year (Nambun) and also launched a Lepcha almanac /calendar for the year 2021, it is informed.
