Rotary Club felicitates two media houses

In recognition of their contribution to the people of Sikkim and especially in the field of journalism, two local media houses, Summit Times and Sikkim Express were felicitated by Rotary Club of Gangtok South here on Tuesday evening. The awards were received by editors, Amit Patro of Sikkim Express and Puran Tamang of Summit Times.
Chairman Sikkim Housing Development Board, Karma Tashi Bhutia was present as the chief guest, while Tathangchen Councilor, Pema Lhamu Lamtha was present as the guest of honour.
In his address, the chief guest congratulated editors of both media houses for playing an important role in the society, especially disseminating information to the people. He encouraged editors and their teams to continuously contribute towards the state and its people. He further thanked Rotary Club of Gangtok South for its selfless service in bringing stranded Sikkimese students back home during the first wave of COVID-19.
Likewise, the guest of honour congratulated both media houses for recognition of their hard work and dedication and further urged them to continuously deliver their responsibilities responsibly towards the society.
While thanking Rotary Club of Gangtok South, Sikkim Express editor, Amit Patro expressed that being the oldest newspaper in the State, Sikkim Express has a huge responsibility to keep the credibility alive especially during the era of digital media. He expressed that media in Sikkim is still growing.
Summit Times editor, Puran Tamang briefly spoke about the challenges and gradual growth of Summit Times. He mentioned that although being a young media house in the State, Summit Times has already been awarded the Best Newspaper Award by the Media Federation of India in 2019. He also thanked the club for the honour.
On the occasion, Rotary Club of Gangtok South secretary, Dr Sujata Upadhayay informed that Governor of Sikkim Ganga Prasad has been inducted in the club as an honorary member.
The function also witnessed an induction ceremony, which was conducted by Rotary Club of Gangtok South president Gopal Basnet, where three new members joined the club.
In his welcome address, vice president of the club, Kiran Rasaily briefly spoke about both media houses.
