Sangha MLA lays foundation stone of monastery at Phadamchen

Sangha MLA, Sonam Lama, who also holds the Ecclesiastical Affairs portfolio, today laid the foundation stone of a monastery at Phadamchen under Lingtam Phadamchen GPU of Chujachen constituency in East Sikkim. With this, a long-pending demand of the residents finally moved closer to fruition, a press communiqué from Sikkim Krantikari Morcha informs.

Mr Lama was accompanied by Power Minister Mingma Norbu Sherpa as guest of honour and Chairperson, STCS, Bishnu Kumar Khatiwara as special guest.

In his address, he made special mention of how the demand for a monastery at Phadamchen had remained ignored under the previous government and said that under the leadership of Chief Minister PS Tamang, the project has come through within two and a half years of the SKM Government.

On his way to Phadamchen, the Minister stopped over at Tashi Chokerling ManiLhakhang at Nimachen and met with gumpa committee and took stock of the present status. He announced a Rs 5 Lakh grant for the Mani Lhakhang.
