SDF petitions Govt for increased security cover for Chamling

A delegation of Sikkim Democratic Front party on Tuesday met the Chief Secretary, Home Secretary and Director General of Police and submitted a memorandum.

The delegation comprised ofSDF chief spokesperson and vice-president, MK Subba, district working committee president, Dr Mechung Bhutia, vice-president [press & publicity],Kishor Khadka, general secretary [west district],Tashi Gyatso Bhutia and district working committee president, Karma Tashi Bhutia.

As per an SDF press release, the said memorandum highlighted the life-threatening attack and sloganeering against SDF president and former CM,Pawan Chamling and workers of the party at Melli Bazaar and then at Sadam by anti-social elements during the South District tour.

The party has demanded that security cover be increased for the SDF president. The memorandum has also demanded restoration of peace in the State and the immediate arrest of anti-social elements involved in the attack on former CM and SDF workers at Sadam.

The memorandum has further stated that it was the responsibility of the State government to provide security to former CM and people of Sikkim so if anything happens to the former CM then the government would be solely responsible, the release adds.
