SE CON D DAY OF CM’S POKLOK -KA MRANG TO URCM inaugurates Child EmpowermentCenter at Poklok Denchu

Gangtok, 14 Jan: On the second day of his three day tour of his constituency Poklok-Kamrang, Chief Minister PS Tamang met the people of Poklok Denchung GPU, Salghari GPU and Tinik Chisopani GPU at Poklok Nandugaon village block administrative centre. Before interacting with the public, the Chief

Minister unveiled a statue of Mahatma Gandhi at the Village Administration Center in Nandugaon and a Child Empowerment Center at Poklok Denchung. The Child Empowerment Center at Poklok Denchung is one of the first in the country and aims at protecting the rights of the child. The main aim of this centre is to provide children a safe space to express themselves. Additionally, this centre will foster the child to actively take part in Bal Sabhas introducing them to Bal panchayats and other village level events which

can help shape the children’s future. This village level Child Empowerment Unit aims at contributing towards the well being of the children by guiding them in various aspects like counselling, rehabilitation and developmental support thereby creating mass awareness on child protection. This centre will highlight the effective, preventive and responsive measures by highlighting children’s voice to be one of the major policy makers of the state hence establishing a child friendly space. Following this, the CM met the people of 17 wards under the three GPUs. He handed over a total of 34 jhora work orders and cheques for compensation against natural calamities to the beneficiaries of the GPUs. In addition, 4

beneficiaries also received Kishan Credit Card (KCC) loan amounting to Rs. 1 Lakh through hands of the Chief Minister. He also handed over asum of Rs 3 lakh to the Panchayat President of Poklok-Denchung GPU for the upliftment of the unit. “The CM likes to communicate directly with the people. The former government also did this but only before elections,” said Political Secretary to the Chief Minister,

Jacob Khaling. He said that the objective of the programme was to solve all the problems of the people.

The by-election results in Poklok-Kamrang showed that the people were suffering and wanted change, he added. Mr Khaling said that the present government will solve the huge water shortage problem in and around Namchi and Namthang.
