Section unhappy with Soreng B Ed college selection process
Gangtok, 19 Jan:
A section of applicants for Sikkim Government B Ed College, Soreng have alleged that the merit list of 150 applicants selected for admission in the college’s B Ed course for the academic session 2020-21 lacks transparency.
According to this group, Sikkim Government B Ed College, Soreng had taken out the list of 150 selected candidates on 13 January with only the application ID numbers. There was no mention of the percentage of the selected candidates or the criteria for their selection.
They add that this raises questions about the selection process as there was no entrance examination conducted for admissions.
Regarding the same, they met the Education Department’s Anil Raj Rai this evening to place their grievances.
Speaking to the media-persons after the meeting, they informed that the officer has assured to look into the matter and further assured to extend the admission process till further notice.
They mentioned that Mr Rai has also assured to meet the Additional Chief Secretary, Education Department, on Wednesday on this matter.
It is informed that out of 150 seats, 33 seats were reserved in different categories and 117 were for fresh candidates of Sikkim.
“We are not against candidates selected for admission in the new session of the college but we just want them to also mention the percentage with the name of selected candidates or the criteria for their selection,” they said.
They have urged the concerned authorities to look into the matter seriously and cancel the list if they find anything amiss with it. They further urged the authorities to issue a fresh list with the proper criteria or percentage mentioned in a transparent manner.
Meanwhile, the selected candidates have been asked to complete the admission process between 13 to 20 January.
