Sichey Mavericks win 20th CM’s Gold Cup Traditional Archery Tournament

Sichey Mavericks today outshot Green Tara, Gangtok, 97-47 to emerge winners of the 20th Chief Minister Gold Cup Traditional Archery Tournament here at the Tangsang Archery Field today, an IPR press release informs. The tournament was organised by organised by Tendong Archery Club under the aegis of Archery Association of Sikkim.

Along with the winner’s trophy, the Sichey Mavericks archers bagged a cash-prize of Rs 2 lakh while the runners-up took home the Rs One lakh cash kitty.

Chewang Dorjee Dukpa from Bhutan, playing for Sichey Mavericks, was adjudged man of the match while the man of the series title went to Rinzing Yonda Bhutia.

The final day had Urban Development Minister, Arun Upreti, as chief guest.

The day also saw the archery field being named in the memory of the land donor’s father. The UDD Minister, while thanking the family, named the field, “Late Jigmey Wangyal Lassopa (Kazi) Memorial Traditional Archery Field".

Among the day’s other highlights was the felicitation of land donor, Jolly WangyalLassopawhose felicitation was received by his sister Kerzang Diki Lassopa and Mingyur Diki Lassopa, Tendong Archery Club founders Sonam Pintso Ethenpa, Aaden Lepcha, and Nim Tshering Bhutia; Sonam Pintso Lepcha - International Archer; and Chungda Sherpa - A World Record holder in Archery, Indian Archery Team Coach 2015- 2018 and presently coaching budding Archers.

An “Inspirational Award” was also presented to Angela Gurung and Kamakshi Gurung on being selected for the national team, the release adds.

Also today, the chief guest handed over a cheque of Rs 10 lakh to the committee members on behalf of Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang.
