Sikkim Aakraman Sporting Club celebrates Int’l Day of Yoga

On the occasion of International Day of Yoga 2022, an awareness programme on yoga and its benefits was organized by Sikkim Aakraman Sporting Club in association with Gangtok Municipal Corporation [GMC] here at Aakraman Sports Arena, Deorali on Tuesday.

The programme had Minister Arun Upreti as the chief guest and was accompanied by GMC Deputy Mayor, Tshering Palden Bhutia among other dignitaries. The programme was attended by representatives from rehab centres and organizations from in and around Gangtok.

On the occasion, Sikkim Aakraman SC and GMC presented a Letter of Appreciation to Healthy Safe Foundation for actively promoting wellness and fitness among the people by conducting daily yoga classes and for carrying out social activities.

In a special session, a yoga trainer, Aradhana Gurung spoke about different benefits of yoga and stressed on practicing yoga with correct postures and breathing techniques. She also shared tips on correct breathing techniques and posture with the participants.

In his address, the Minister appealed to people to practice yoga on regular basis to stay healthy in body and mind. He encouraged people to include yoga, sports and exercises in their daily lifestyle for better physical and mental health. He asserted that a person can do regular work in a more efficient and better manner by staying healthy mentally and physically.

The Minister appreciated the efforts of the Sikkim Aakraman SC especially among youths by promoting sports and fitness in the State. He further encouraged the entire team of the club to continue with their work to help the state government to make Sikkim and its people healthy.

Earlier, Sikkim Aakraman SC president, Jigme Singey Wangchuk mentioned that the club has taken this initiative to promote yoga and its benefits among people by bringing youngsters and elders together in the celebration. He also dedicated the programme to the founder of Health Self Foundation and yog guru, Late T Lachungpa for actively promoting yoga and fitness among the people. He urged people to take inspiration from him by adopting yoga and fitness activities to stay healthy in their daily life.

Mr Wangchuk announced that Sikkim Aakraman SC will soon visit different rehab centres in the state to conduct yoga classes free of cost for its members. He also shared other plans and programmes of the club for different age groups.
