Sikkim begins National Energy Conservation Week celebrations

National Energy Conservation Week celebrations began here today with a series of activities to generate wider awareness on energy conservation. The NEC Week observation is being organized by the Power Department which is the state-designated agency for the task under the Bureau of Energy Efficiency [BEE], Ministry of Power.
Today, an awareness programme for students of Nar Bahadur Bhandari Degree College was organised in association with Gangtok-based rehabilitation and drug treatment centre, Serenity Home, at the college campus.
The programme, held on the theme, ‘Save Today, Survive Tomorrow,’ included flash-mob, skit and other awareness activities on energy conservation. Posters and stickers were also launched during the programme.
Superintending Engineer, Power Deaprtment, Pemba Lepcha, who is also the nodal officer, informed that awareness activities will be held in public places throughout the week and underlined that wise use of power was important to conserve energy for the future generations and to check pollution.
Events for the first day of this weeklong observation ended with a flash-mob at MG Marg this evening.
